TLEMCEN’S TIMELESS WOMEN

BRIDE WEARING THE CHEDDA, THE TLEMCEN BRIDAL Caftan (UNESCO cultural heritage of humanity)

What always struck me when going back to Tlemcen, my father’s city…
…is the beauty of its women.
The allure. The glamour.
A style that is uniquely theirs.

We think Arabs and we think women hidden behind a hijab.
And most days, yes — they mix European cuts with a veil.

And these cuts don’t fit our bodies nor our culture.
But on special occasions…
…they transform.

They wear their heritage.

And suddenly they are goddesses — draped in centuries of grace, gold, and artistry.

Passed from mother to daughter, untouched by political storms, religious shifts, or societal change. Fashion in Tlemcen has its own rules, its own heartbeat.

But why limit it to weddings? Why must beauty be saved for rare days?
Why not to work?
To the market?
To a café with friends?
Our heritage is too beautiful to hide in a closet.

Maya Morita was born from this desire.
To create clothes that travel from the Medina to Ibiza.
That hold heritage yet live in the present.
That can be worn with elegance — or with daring.
Timeless pieces to be passed to your daughter one day.
Because sustainability isn’t a trend here — it’s in our blood.
