Not quite a waistcoat, not quite jewellery. The ghlila has long held a singular place in the Algerian wardrobe.
We reimagined it in handwoven mensouj from Tlemcen with fine metallic stripes, sculptural curves and a delicate succession of ornamental aâkad buttons.
Designed to be worn both ways, its recto-verso construction gives this ancestral piece two entirely different expressions.
Over a shirt or a tank dress, it turns familiar tailoring into something entirely unexpected.
Reverse it, and the plungeback frames bare skin like jewellery. One garment, two expressions of the same heritage.
Details:
• Handwoven striped mensouj silk brocade from Tlemcen
• Cropped, sculptural silhouette
• Recto-verso design, wearable in both directions
• Deep, curved line below the chest
• Plungeback on the reversed side
• Braided edging and ornamental aâkad buttons
• Sleeveless design
• Made to order, handmade in Algiers
